Thornton Engineering is seeking trade-qualified and experienced Welder Job in Australia to join its skilled team of boilermakers and welders at its Corio workshops in Geelong. This role is ideal for professionals with strong welding experience across MIG, TIG, Flux-core, and Stick welding processes. As part of a well-established Australian steel fabrication company, you will work on large-scale infrastructure projects while maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety, and precision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform welding tasks in accordance with welding procedure specifications (WPS)
  • Interpret welding specifications to select correct consumables and variables
  • Carry out GMAW (MIG), GTAW (TIG), Flux-core, and/or SMAW (Stick) welding
  • Operate and maintain welding machines and fabrication equipment
  • Use and maintain measuring tools, power tools, and hand tools
  • Produce fabricated steel parts while maintaining high-quality standards
  • Work under the direction of the workshop supervisor
  • Ensure compliance with safety and quality requirements

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade (Welder) or equivalent
  • Ability to pass a welder qualification test
  • Considerable experience in GMAW (MIG) welding
  • Experience with TIG, Flux-core, and/or Stick welding (advantageous)
  • Experience welding stainless steel (advantageous)
  • Ability to read and interpret WPS (Welding Procedure Specifications)
  • Skilled in operating fabrication and welding equipment
  • Current and valid driver’s licence
  • Forklift, Dogman (DG), and/or high-risk work licences are highly regarded
