Horticulturalist Job in Auckland

Green by Nature NZ is seeking an experienced and passionate Horticulturalist Job in Auckland to join its Auckland team on a permanent, full-time basis. This role is based at a retirement village in Clevedon and is ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors, takes pride in their work, and is committed to maintaining high-quality green spaces. You will play a key role in creating, maintaining, and enhancing gardens while ensuring safety, quality, and client satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain all aspects of gardening across the retirement village contract
  • Carry out planting, weeding, pruning, spraying, blowing, weed eating, and vegetation control
  • Execute garden works in line with client specifications and garden plans
  • Source required plants and materials and plant according to plant-specific needs
  • Oversee day-to-day operational activities at designated sites within the contract
  • Mentor and support a trainee and other gardeners to ensure efficient teamwork
  • Communicate regularly with the Team Manager regarding garden and planting issues
  • Ensure all gardening activities meet safety, compliance, and quality standards
  • Maintain safe work practices to protect the public, team members, and yourself

Requirements

  • Level 4 National Certificate in Horticulture
  • GrowSafe certification
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar horticulture role
  • Full driver’s licence with manual driving capability
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test in line with company policy

Skills

  • Strong knowledge of plant species and maintenance requirements
  • Ability to accurately follow and implement gardening plans
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proactive and helpful attitude toward team members and the public
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Willingness to mentor and share horticultural knowledge
  • High attention to safety, quality, and detail
